Privacy Policy

Pai is built to help you offload what's on your mind — and to be honest about what happens to it. This policy explains, in plain English, what Pai collects, how your voice is handled, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Pai ("we", "us") is an app that lets you speak your thoughts and turns them into a to-do list. For any questions about your privacy or this policy, contact us at privacy@hellopai.app.
The short version
- No account, no sign-in. Pai doesn't ask you to register, and we don't collect your name for our records — the name you give is only stored on your own phone to greet you.
- Your voice is processed to create your tasks. When you hold to talk, your audio is sent securely to be converted to text and organised into tasks, then returned to your phone.
- Your task list stays on your device. Your tasks and name are saved only on your phone. They are not synced to us or to any cloud, and we cannot see them.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps.
What Pai collects, and why
Voice recordings. When you hold the button and speak, Pai records that audio so it can be turned into text. This is the core of how Pai works — without it, Pai can't create your list.
The text of what you said, and the tasks created from it. Your speech is transcribed into text, and a task list is generated from that text.
Your name (optional). If you tell Pai your name, it's used only to greet you and is stored on your device. You can skip this.
Pai does not collect your contacts, location, photos, or advertising identifiers, and does not require you to create an account.
How your voice is processed
To turn speech into a useful list, your audio (and the text made from it) is sent over a secure, encrypted connection to our processing service and to trusted third-party providers that perform speech-to-text and language processing. Once your tasks are generated and returned to your phone, Pai does not store your audio or its transcript beyond what's needed to create your list. Our processing providers may retain it briefly under their own policies (for example, short-term storage to prevent misuse), but it is never used to advertise to you or to train AI models on your personal data.
Where your data is stored
Your task list and your name are stored locally on your device only — they are not uploaded to us or synced to the cloud. This means:
- We cannot see, access, or recover your tasks.
- Your list stays on your phone between sessions and app updates.
- If you delete the Pai app, your tasks and name are permanently erased. There is no backup.
Third parties we rely on
Pai works with a small number of service providers strictly to make the app function:
- OpenAI — to transcribe your voice into text and turn it into tasks. OpenAI processes this data on our behalf and, under its API terms, does not use it to train its models.
- Apple — the app is distributed through Apple's App Store and TestFlight, which are governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
These providers process your data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Children
Pai is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
Because your tasks and name live only on your device, you are always in control: you can edit or delete any task at any time, and deleting the app erases everything. Depending on where you live (for example, under UK/EU data protection law), you may also have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data. Since we don't hold your task data ourselves, most of these are exercised directly on your device — but you can contact us at privacy@hellopai.app with any request or question and we'll help.
Changes to this policy
As Pai grows, we may update this policy. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll do our best to let you know.
